Introducing “Meet Your Coast Guard Reserve”

Chief Petty Officer Rachel Polish, 13th District Reserve Public Affairs Chief, stands before the 13th District logo at the offices located in downtown Seattle. More than 600 reservists work across the Pacific Northwest where they help active duty personnel in meeting the Coast Guard’s 11 statutory missions.

Recognizing the People and Efforts of Our Pacific Northwest Reserve Force

The Coast Guard Reserve is celebrating its 75th anniversary on Feb. 19, which is a major milestone for an organization with such a storied history. From the groundbreaking creation of the SPARS during World War II to major oil spills like Deepwater Horizon, Coast Guard Reservists are Semper Paratus, or “Always Ready,” to serve and consistently do more than is asked.

While there will likely be cake-cutting events and notes of appreciation, we don’t often take the time to recognize the outstanding professionals, the local contributions and the extraordinary efforts of our Pacific Northwest Reserve Force. When not on Coast Guard duty, our reservists are members of law enforcement and first response agencies, technology professionals, small business owners, leaders in education and much more. You might be pleasantly surprised by the breadth of talent and “can do” attitude our reservists espouse, even in times of crisis or challenging budgets, but we remain incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve and are humbled by the important responsibilities you entrust to us.

So, starting today and running through the month of February, Coast Guard District 13 – comprised of units in Washington, Oregon, Montana and Idaho – will host a regional “Meet Your Coast Guard Reserve” series. This series will showcase many of the more than 600 men and women who currently serve, or those who have served, as reservists. We hope you enjoy meeting our shipmates and look forward to sharing their stories.

Semper Paratus!
